Cedar 5 was in Fairfield, Ohio, serving with the One-Way Farm Children’s Home. The One Way Farm is a place for children who have lived lives of abuse and neglect to come and get a new start. Its founder, Ms. Barbara Condo, whom has won a number of awards, has welcomed the team with open arms.
Cedar 5 had been doing a lot of general maintenance around the farm, and had spent the past few days weeding the day lily fields around the property, getting plenty of sun and learning the importance of proper application of sun screen. In the evenings the Service Learning Initiators have been putting on movie nights, allowing team members to pick childhood favorites to watch so the team can remember the importance of our childhood and to appreciate what the children living here have missed most of their lives. The team was anxiously awaiting the end of the children’s school year, so that they would get a chance to work with the kids on a one on one level, playing games and, doing trust and communication activities with them and getting to know a bit more about the difference they are making in others’ lives.
“I am just excited to be working with the kids, I have been around people who have gone through similar situations for most of my life and I’d like to be able to help these kids how I can.”, says member Tom Bailey.
Cedar 5 enjoyed themselves greatly, serving with the people that make One-Way Farm Children’s Home so wonderful. It has been an experience of a lifetime.
