It used to be if you had a memory of a time in your childhood, you had that, and maybe a few pictures.

Now if you have a memory, google it!

Today I was thinking about Dr. Max and Mombo, and remembering all the happy feeling I get at the thought of them.

I remember Mombo came to visit our Sunday School and the picture that I have of him. If I remember correctly the dresses my sister and I had were almost more wild than Mombo's outfit!

So anyway, I googled Dr. Max and Mombo.

I found a series of clips that aired about them on Channel 2, so I will include them for your watching pleasure. I found myself sitting here watching them, and then thinking I should get back to work, but I'll just watch one more... :)

Have you ever wondered what you would like on your tombstone when the time comes? Really, when the times comes, how do you sum up your life?

I found it appropriate that Fred Petrick, who is now buried at Cedar Memorial, in Cedar Rapids has "Mombo" on his.

Dr. Max and Mombo were a staple of life in the '60's and 70's.

It was a time when chicken pox and even the mumps still circulated and if you were unfortunate enough have contracted one of these diseases, you were on the "Fat Facer" or the "Chicken Pops" list that they read on the show.

Oh, to have a kids show like this again today!

PM January 26, 2011, 2:53 am I\'m 50 years old and for some reason Googled Dr. Max about 30 minutes ago. It is now 12:20 am according to my clock here in Colorado and now I\'m here. Funny how that worked out.

I grew up with Dr. Max and Mombo and was fortunate to be on the program several times. My father was the news anchor at WMT so besides spending a fair amount of time at the station I was also privledged with being on the show for a few of my birthdays and Christmas broadcasts.

If I wasn\'t getting in peoples way at the station I was home glued to the tv. We moved from Cedar Rapids to Colorado in 1970 and sadly that\'s the last I saw of the Dr. Max. Show.

TP January 10, 2011, 5:14 pm I remember seeing Dr. Max and Mombo at the Palace Theater. It must have been sometime in the mid 60\'s.

SA January 8, 2011, 8:44 pm Oh, yes, I remember them so very well! I even remember Dr. Max\'s predecessor, Marshall Jay! I grew up with them. I still have \"My Important Book\" somewhere. Mombo - Fred Petrick - and his wife were friends of my grandmother as well, on more than one occasion he was at my grandmother\'s house doing balloon animals for all the kids. My best memory of Dr. Max is from the year after I graduated from high school, when I was in my first play at Theatre Cedar Rapids. Max Hahn had been a regular performer there for a generation, and he was in the cast of my first show there. It was a thrill, even at that age, to get to be in a play with Dr. Max! If I\'m not mistaken, I think that was the last show he ever did there.

JH January 8, 2011, 4:44 pm I too remember Dr. Max and Mombo. Always a favorite. Seems so long ago. We\'d eat some cold cereal or toast while we watched because supper at 5-6 pm was soooo far away and we were so hungry!! Thanks for the memories!

BI January 8, 2011, 11:01 am In the 60\'s we didn\'t spend much time in front of the television but the Dr. Max Show was probably when we spent the most. I remember seeing Mombo once at a stop light in Cedar Rapids - a brush with fame! Also once saw Dr. Max leaving the Ron-da-Voo mid afternoon on a summer day - funny (but not ha ha).

LK January 7, 2011, 4:24 pm If you lived in eastern Iowa you were usually glued to the tv at 3:30 each day after hurrying home from school! Great memories. I remember Mombo being at a couple of BD parties in the neighborhood, Kelly\'s included :)
