Events and Activities : Pasture walk set for Aug. 26, at Rebecca Dostal farm

Tama County Women, Land, and Legacy will soon hold its twenty-third event, The Bohemie Alps: Pasture Walk Around Paddocks & Ponds. It will be held on Tuesday, August 26 at the Rebecca Dostal farm, 2422 Q Avenue in rural Clutier. A meal sponsored by Tama County Farm Bureau will be served beginning at 6:00 p.m. with the event following at 7:00. The meal and event are free of charge and open to the public.

Our evening on rotational grazing will feature Denise Schwab, Iowa State University Extension’s Beef Program Specialist for Tama County. Topics will include grazing systems, fencing, watering options, cover crops, pasture interseeding, and cost-share funding.

Please wear sanitary footwear appropriate for pasture conditions.

The Dostal farm is located on Q Avenue approximately 1 ½ miles south of County Road E29, northwest of Clutier. It is also ½ mile west and ¼ mile north of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, rural Clutier.

Several local agencies are working to bring Women, Land and Legacy to Tama County-- Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency, Tama County Extension Service, Iowa Valley Resource Conservation & Development, and the Tama Soil & Water Conservation District. In recent years, women’s roles in Iowa agriculture have changed dramatically. It has become more and more evident there is a need to reach out to women at the local level and to help them make connections they may find helpful as landowners, farmers, and other important role-players in our state’s largest industry.

In response to this increasing need, the USDA State Outreach Council has designed the grassroots program Women, Land & Legacy. It is currently active in numerous Iowa counties and brings together Iowan women interested in agriculture, local food and natural resources to converse, listen and become empowered for involvement on their landscape and in their communities.
