Eleventh Week of the 2025 Legislative Session

As we continued with floor debate in the 11th week of session, we passed several policies that have been in public discussion for a while. One of these was a priority of Governor Kim Reynolds and an issue we have discussed many times over the last several weeks. House File 782 is the Governor’s proposal on cell phones in schools. It requires schools to adopt policies that regulate and restrict cell phone use by students during school hours and in the classroom.

State Auditor Sand Claws Back at Corruption with New ‘Taxpayers’ Watchcat’ Seal

In a bold and unexpected move, Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand on Tuesday announced a major change to the office’s branding. Effective immediately, the State Auditor’s official seal will no longer feature the iconic “Taxpayers’ Watchdog.” Instead, it will be replaced with a new, feline-focused emblem: “The Taxpayers’ Watchcat.”“After years of tailing financial mischief, we’ve decided it’s time to paws and rethink our approach,” said Sand.
