TREES FOREVER PROMOTING TREE SEEDLING PROJECTS

Funding available for communities and volunteer groups to plant young treesMARION, IA (January 28, 2021) - Small trees with big futures are available for planting projects across Iowa and in the Quad Cities area of Illinois through a partnership between environmental non-profit Trees Forever, GreenState Credit Union and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

City to Discuss 4th Ward Vacancy at Thursday's Council Meeting

With the passing of the 4th Ward Councilman, Nathan Hesson, the City Council will discuss the options for filling his seat on the council at this week's City Council meeting. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m., the information can be seen here. There are two options for filling this seat. The council can vote to appoint someone to fill the seat, the term for this person would run only until the next election, November 2, 2021.

Area family injured in head-on collision

Kristin Beard and her children were traveling on Highway 150, just west of Urbana when they were involved in a head-on collision on Wednesday. Fortunately, the family survived with non-life-threatening injuries. The oldest son Carter has a badly broken arm and is in surgery at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Kristin has a broken ankle and is waiting for surgery at the UIHC.

Total Balance holds Fundraiser for Hesson Family

Total Balance in Vinton, will be holding a fundraiser to show their support and love for the family of Nathan Hesson. You are invited to Join the Challenge. 2021 Total Balance Charity Challenge proceeds will be going to support Ashley Hesson and family. Ashley and her two children lost their husband and father suddenly last week.The February, March and April Challenge will be $100 for the 3 month challenge.

Benton County Food Pantry to be closed on Tuesday, January 26

The Benton County Food Pantry, located at the Benton County Access Center, will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 26. The doors will open on Thursday at the regular time from  10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

FFA Holds Holiday Party

The party consisted of an afternoon full of playing games, conversing among each other, and eating pizza together. Even though they wore masks, smiles were visible on the faces of all in attendance as they were able to celebrate the end of the semester and prepare for their upcoming classes.

Cancer requires more tutoring, with Meyer continuing to Teaching Cancer a lesson

After battling her first round of leukemia, she suffered another relapse with a second diagnosis of leukemia. "I thought I was done with these updates... but should have known 2020 wasn’t done messing stuff up yet!" Carly shared.
