We received multiple calls today from residents in Benton County. A message was received telling the resident that they need to contact the DMV in reference to an unpaid tickets/fines, or their license is going to be suspended or a multiple of other penalties. This is a scam! Do not click on the link and provide any information.

On Tuesday, June 10, at 9:15 a.m. the Benton County Supervisors will be asked to approve a land use change in Benton County. The address of the land change from agricultural use is the "southeast one-fourth (SE1/4) of the northeast one-fourth (NE1/4) of Sec 12 T86N, R11, West of the 5th P.M." The street address for the Wind Turbine Blade Recycling and Storage Facility would be 5143 22nd Ave,  Mt Auburn.

Science, Stems, and Success: VS FFA Competes at District CDEs

Raine Wheeler, Ciara Dods, Kassidi Brunssen, Madeline Pingenot, Abby McKenna, and Kirsten Pettit participated in Floriculture. By: Co-Reporter, Bri DulinOn May 12th, 10 members of the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter participated in the Northeast District Food Science and Floriculture Career Development Events at Hawkeye Community College. The Food Science event included a Written Exam, Math Practicum, Food Safety and Quality Practicum, Customer Inquiry Practicum, Triangle Tests, and Aroma Tests.

Benton County 4-Hers Excel at 2025 State Livestock Triathlon

Note: Photo captions are at the end of the article.---Nineteen members of the Benton County 4-H Livestock Skills interest group had a highly successful weekend participating in the 2025 Iowa 4-H Livestock Triathlon in Ames. Held on the campus of Iowa State University, the Triathlon was a two-day event featuring competitions in Livestock Quiz Bowl, Skillathon, and Judging.

Pork in the Pantry Provides 75,000 Servings to Those in Need

County pork organizations across the state stepped up in a big way this year for the Pork in the Pantry program. A total of 47 county organizations participated in the program, donating more than 18,000 pounds of pork, totaling almost 75,000 servings to help fight food insecurity in Iowa.“We are deeply grateful to the Iowa Pork Producers and the 47 county pork organization participating in Pork in the Pantry for the remarkable donations distributed to food pantries and food banks across Iowa," said Linda Gorkow, executive director of the Iowa Food Bank Association.
