Final slate of Primary Candidates for Benton County June Primary
The final paperwork has been submitted for the open Benton County offices in 2024. The deadline to file was 5:00 p.m on Friday, March 22, 2024.If you are a registered Democrat or Independent but would like to vote for one of these candidates in the primary, you will need to change parties to Republican in order to vote. After the primary, you can change back.

Benton County accepting applications for Benton Co. Veterans Affairs Commission
The Benton County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for the Benton County Veterans Affairs Commission. This is a three-member commission that provides guidance and oversees operations of the Benton County Veterans Affairs Department. This position is a 3-year term and does require an applicant to be a veteran. Any veteran interested in this position will be filling this seat until the end of the current term which is June 30, 2024.

V-S parents receive notice of possible threat
Parents of middle school students in the Vinton-Shellsburg School District received notice that a student had issued a threat on Monday. However, the school reassured parents that the threat had been investigated..The notification from the school reads, "Following the conclusion of school today we had notice of a possible threat at the middle school.

I missed a couple of timely items for the Vinton Shellsburg School District so I am sending out this email with a special update as well on action taken by the Benton County Supervisors.
Update: The Supervisors have changed tomorrow's agenda
For unknown reasons, the Auditor item which was previously on the agenda for tomorrow has been removed from the meeting with the Benton County Supervisors. However, topic number 15 at 9:30 A.M. Information Technology is still on.Re: Possible closed session pursuant to Iowa Code 21.5(1)(i) To evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual's reputation and that individual requests a closed session.
