Flood recovery efforts begin tomorrow, September 29th in Vinton. The Benton County Disaster Recovery Coalition is addressing flood cleanup efforts for families impacted by the flood. Locally, the Salvation Army will coordinate efforts in Vinton beginning Thursday, September 29th. They will be setting up a canopy in the Vinton Municipal Parking lot located at 3rd Ave & E. 4th Street in Vinton and have clean up kits and additional information available on flood cleanup. Individuals who need help should call the 211 Hotline. Just dial 211 on your phone or if your cell phone provider does connect with 211 by simply dialing 211, call 319-739-4211.and let the operator know your location. Salvation Army will coordinate volunteers with families needing assistance with sandbags and home cleanup. Individuals or groups who would like to volunteer should sign up through the East Central Iowa United Way by going to their website: www.uweci.org. They will coordinate volunteers locally with the Salvation Army for individual home cleanup assistance in Vinton and Benton County. Any monetary donations can be made to the Benton County Disaster Recovery Coalition to assist in local flood recovery efforts for families. Mail donations to P.O. Box 125, Vinton, IA 52349. The Benton County Disaster Recovery Coalition is a 501c3 organization to assist families impacted in multi-dwelling disasters. It was formed after the floods of 2008 to assist families in the county who have unmet needs after all other sources of funds have been exhausted. The Coalition is Benton County's long term recovery committee. The organization works directly with Benton County Emergency Management.
