Peggy Marie (McKenna) Krafka

Peggy Marie  (McKenna) Krafka   Peggy Marie Krafka, 54 of Solon, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at her home following a courageous battle against breast/brain cancer. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon and an hour prior to services Saturday.

Kathryn E. Cottrell

Kathryn E. Cottrell VINTON:  Kathryn E. Cottrell, 80 of Vinton died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton following an extended illness.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 25, 2012 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton.  Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Vinton.

Bernie Burry

Bernard Burry   Bernard Joseph Burry, 90, of Keystone, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at home in Keystone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, with Father Brian Dellaert as celebrant. Friends may register at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.

Joel Francis Meek

Joel Francis Meek, 72, of Buckingham was born to Howard and Eunice (Glendy) Meek in rural Tama County on July 13, 1939. Joel and Janet Hagge were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama on March 23, 1958.  He was employed as a production machine operator for John Deere for 31 years before retiring.  Joel spent his free time enjoying the outdoors; hunting and fishing.

Wiebbecke, 76, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Vinton, died Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hopsice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following an extended illness. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Private committal services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.

Don Eugene Hite

Don Eugene Hite SHELLSBURG:  Don Eugene Hite, 93 of Shellsburg died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg.       Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Oakland Church of the Nazarene, 3000 – 42nd Street NE in Cedar Rapids with Rev. David King officiating.  Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg.

Gloria Jean (Collins) McElroy

  God called Gloria Jean McElroy home on Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Her beautiful life began on September 2, 1949, in Vinton, Iowa.  Gloria was a sales consultant for State Beauty Supply and a member Rolling Hills Christian Church.  On September 8, 1967, she married John L. McElroy in Vinton, Iowa. He survives. She is also survived by her daughters, Heather R.

L. Neil Waldorf

L. Neil Waldorf VINTON – L. Neil Waldorf, 89, of Vinton, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a sudden illness. He had been a resident at Windsor Manor in Vinton for the past three years. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Pastors Fred Darbonne and Kara Courtney officiating.

Charles H. Briggs

Charles H. Briggs  VINTON -- Charles H. Briggs, 95, of Hammond, Wisconsin, formerly of Vinton, died Monday, May 7, 2012, in St. Paul, MN.  Charles was born October 28, 1916, in Chickasaw County, Iowa, the son of John W. and Emma Niewoehner Briggs. On December 18, 1938, he married Marian Brandenburg, and they had two daughters. She preceded him death.

Doug Stufflebeam Celebration of Life set for Saturday
