DES MOINES -- Through the early competition at the State track meet Friday, Vinton-Shellsburg's Allison Emrich and Taylor Leyden were among the first local athletes to compete.
 
Emrich did not make the finals of the shot put, with a top throw of 35 feet. Leyden went 19 feet 11 inches in the long jump, but also didn't make the finals.
