VPRD searches for the PERFECT pictures!

Every year following events like Party in the Park, Vinton Parks and Rec searches for those perfect pictures snapped from their events to use in promoting Vinton and the department. Usually Vinton Today will drop off a disk or direct them to albums of pictures for their use. This year let's try something different!If you snap some cute photos of the kids or grandpa and grandma enjoying events at Party in the Park, or maybe you caught a great Kiddie Parade photo, tag the department's Facebook page here.

Out with the old, in with the new!

The playground equipment makes its way through Vinton after removal from Riverside Park Vinton Parks and Recreation isn't known for letting the grass grow under their feet! They announced that  B.L. Anderson park now has the brand new basketball hoops up and they are "ready for action!"Also happening on Thursday, was the removal of the damaged park equipment at Riverside Park. Pickering Backhoe Service of Keystone took down the equipment to the entertainment of some of the area children at the park.

Benton County Veterans Remembered

Legionnaires from across Benton County took time out to lay a new wreath at Benton County's Highway 30 Memorial. The new wreath was lovingly created, adding new flowers and ribbon by Sue Herman of Shellsburg.The Legion members on hand to lay the wreath was Vince Barloon and John Grieder of Belle Plaine, Doug Anderson of Newhall and Jay Herman of Van Horne.

Hainey honored as 'Best of the Class'

Ella Hainey from Vinton-Shellsburg CSD was honored as a member of the 2022 Best of the Class. KWWL and the University of Northern Iowa recognized valedictorians or top graduating seniors from across eastern Iowa at a celebration on Saturday, May 21 at the Maucker Union on the UNI campus. KWWL Vice President and General Manager John Huff noted “KWWL is proud to be associated with an event that shines a light on these outstanding students, their families, and schools.

VGH & VGH Health Care Foundation award $12,000 in Area Scholarships

Virginia Gay Hospital and the Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation is proud to announce the recipients of their annual scholarship awards to area students. This year a total of $12,000 was awarded to high school seniors in the Benton Community, Center Point Urbana and Vinton-Shellsburg school districts pursuing degrees in nursing or human health profession.
