As much as we love fireworks displays, drifting smoke
can cause breathing problems for some and drought conditions may pose
additional risks this year.Dry conditions and the threat of fires may cause some
towns to take extra precautions with fireworks displays. Whether
attending a display or celebrating in your backyard, keep these four
safety tips in mind.

A man who accessed child pornography was sentenced on June 29, 2021, to ten years in federal prison.Jared Daily, age 35, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, received the sentence after a January 11, 2021 guilty plea to one count of accessing child pornography. At the plea hearing, Daily admitted that, between January and June 2020, he used a cell phone to access child pornography, including depictions of prepubescent children.

The Vinton Public Library had a little bit of a facelift in their children's area on the lower level of the library. Artists from the local Vinton Guild of Fine Arts were invited by Janette McMahon of the Vinton Public Library to paint a couple of murals downstairs as well as one of the pillars. The first of the two has been completed. With the help of the Guild, area artists left to right.

One of the most talked about parts of the redevelopment project of the old Iowa Braille School campus is nearing completion, and it looks to be something both new and exciting. The Old Hospital Pub is slated to open later this summer and project manager - and Vinton native - Bonnie Xanadu, a representative of the Bari Group, is excited about the long-awaited opening.

Just last summer the city council heard about plans to build a new Vinton Emergency Services Facility. The location of the new facility will be on the corner of Highway 218/South K Ave. and 13th St.. or on the west edge of the former Braille School Property. The new facility would place all of the emergency services under one roof. Almost two years ago a committee with members of the Vinton Police Department, Vinton Fire Department, and North Benton Ambulance came together and interviewed several firms to design the facility.

Neither rain, nor the threat of it stopped events in downtown Vinton on Thursday evening. As they have done for several years, Farmers Savings Bank & Trust staff served the Vinton community a picnic meal. The Pingenot's entertained children, and adults with their bubble wands in the lawn behind the tent while everyone waited for the parade to begin.
FARM BUREAU FINANCIAL SERVICES - June 18th, 2021 3:16 am

The Benton County Farm Bureau organization, and its members, donate to the Benton County Disaster Recovery Coalition. The Farm Bureau board of directors reached out to the members in Benton County with an offer to match their donations, up to $1,000, made to the Coalition. Benton County Farm Bureau leader Matt Werner was happy to present to the group a total of $2,350 in donations.

The Benton County Cattlemen’s Association treated area students with a grilled hamburger as part of their lunch on Thursday.
