Alvin “Tuffy” Howard Kite, 63, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 30, 2024, at UI Health Care Medical Center, Iowa City.  A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14. 2024, at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, VintonAlvin was born September 21, 1961 in Atlantic, IA, the son of Dale and Joanne (Kiesel) Kite.

Joan Miriam Nix (Kramer), 57, of Vinton, died Monday, November 25, 2024, in Unity Point St. Lukes Hospital from a long illness. Celebration of Life Services will be scheduled for Spring of 2025. Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her mother, Sharon McKnight of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her lifetime partner, Chad Peterson of Vinton, Iowa, her sister, June Dillon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her uncles, Allan and Eldon Blessing, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her grandchildren, Khalid, Malachi, Mason Al-yasiri, Chance Richards, Trendon, Robert, and Mathew Walker, and many more family and friends.

Robert "Mike" Viall, 71, of Norway, passed away on November 28, 2024, in his home. Private family services will be held in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and the Avacentre will be assisting the family at this time. Robert was born August 19, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Harvey and Nadine (McQueen) Viall. He graduated from Prairie High School, class of 1972.

Aaron Michael Cretin, age 49, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 5, 2024, at St. John XXIII Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with Rev. Aaron Junge as Celebrant.  Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fairfax.  A Rosary will be held at 3:30 PM, followed by Visitation from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, December 4, 2024, also at the church.

Mary Elizabeth (Bell) Evens, age 77, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, following a sudden illness.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, December 6, 2024, at Blessed Hope Church with Rev. Donna Mae Carlson, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, November 28, 2024. A visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids.Donna was born November 15, 1935, in Braham, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Elsie (Swanson) Strelow. She graduated from Braham High School.

Roger Midthun, of Anamosa, formerly of Vinton, passed away at the age of 75 on Friday, November 22, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha after a long series of health challenges and a short but valiant battle with cancer which stemmed from Agent Orange exposure during his time served in Vietnam. His loss leaves a hole that cannot be filled.

Wayne Bruce Petersen, 77, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Lake Regional Hospital. He was born October 23, 1947, in Vinton, Iowa, a son of Lloyd Charles and Dorothy Ann (Junge) Petersen, both deceased. He was a graduate of Dysart High School and the University of Iowa.Wayne started his work life as a bank examiner before moving on to farming.

Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Gerald "Butch" Edward Thoman, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2024. He was surrounded by family at his home on the Thoman Century Farm. Gerald was born January 15, 1933, in Norway, Iowa to Donald E. and Alma S. (Oftedahl) Thoman. Gerald attended Norway Schools. He was a Private First Class in the United States Army Engineers after attending basic training in Fort Leonard, Missouri.
