'Inside the Huddle' - Coakley and Co. spoil Knights homecoming, 35-15

This past Friday night, the Union Knights hosted the 3A District 5 leading Maquoketa Cardinals for homecoming. Union came in at 4-1 (2-1) while Maquoketa was 4-1 (3-0), so a win for the Knights would have spoiled any chances that Maquoketa had of running the table in District 5. Led by quarterback Chase Coakley, halfback Craig Johnson, and a huge defensive line, Maquoketa didn't have much trouble vs.

The Union Knights 4-1 (2-1) rebounded from a tough loss last week to DeWitt with a high scoring 56-27 win over the Anamosa Blue Raiders 2-3 (0-3).
Football roundup: Marion shuts out Vikes; Burnside sees few carries in Union win
After the first three weeks of the season, there are new leaders Class 3A, district 5.
Maquoketa and W. Dubuque are tied at 3-0 in district play, while Marion, Central Clinton and Union are tied at 2-1. Under the tie-breaking system, Marion and Union would be considered the third and fourth place teams.
Tranel leads District in tackles; Vikes travel to Marion tonight
Vinton-Shellsburg senior Gunner Tranel was the Vikings' leading ball carrier last week, rushing for 145 yards and three of the team's four touchdowns in the loss vs. W. Dubuque.
Tranel has also led the team on defense. He is tied for 20th among all Iowa high schol football players, with 60 total tackles in four games, including 38 solo tackles and 22 assists.
