Vikettes defeat Benton in four games

Viking/Vikette Hall of Fame to add more inductees Sept. 30

  Hall of Fame Induction- 2011   Please join us on Friday, September 30, 2011, for the 2011 Viking/Vikette Athletic Hall of Fame Induction.  The Freshman & Varsity football teams will be hosting Anamosa, starting at 5:15 p.m.  The induction ceremony will be held during halftime of the varsity game, approximately 8:30 p.

VSMS runners lead pack at local meet

     At the recent Middle School cross country meet in Vinton, Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School had the top finishers among both boys and girls      Lily Horst continued leading the VS girls, finising first with a time of 6:07. Five of the top six finishers in the girls race were from VSMS.      In the boys race, Jonah Blix finished first for VSMS with a time of 6:06.

8th grade boys win both games vs. Williamsburg

Last call for Adult Volleyball League registrations!

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is placing its last call for Adult Volleyball League registrations. The current league options available are the Mens division, the Womens Upper division, Womens Lower division and the Coed Division. Registration forms are available online at www.vprdzone.com or at the Vinton Recreation Center.

High school volleyball: Vikettes lose in close games to CCA

     Last night Vinton-Shellsburg lost a hard fought battle to Clear Creek-Amana 1-3 Scores were: 21-25 25-20 16-25 22-25        The Vikettes came out excited last night and played hard.  Since we played last, I went back to the drawing board to make some personnel changes and changes to our defense as well.

VS boys win home cross country meet; girls fifth

       Led by Wyatt Lyons and Ricky Jeray, the Vinton-Shellsburg boys cross country team won its home meet Tuesday evening at Rodgers Park.       The Vikings had 66 points, two ahead of second-place Marion in the nine-team competition.      The VS girls finished fifth in the 10-team field; Benton Community won the event.

Benton County Speedway to honor Iowa's Soldiers

Due to the weather last Sunday, THIS Sunday, September 25, the Benton County Speedway will  Salute Iowa's Bravest. Men and women returing from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan will be special guests during season championship night. They will be honored in a parade lap with special guest Ian Ralstonas, who was badly injured in Iraq. Drivers will pass their helmets for donations to send holiday gift boxes to our troops.

Metro League VS football players recognized

The VS Metro team competes with others in the Cedar Rapids area.      At fourth, fifth and sixth grade, their coaches and fathers are teaching them the fundamentals of football and even some of the same formations and plays they may learn as high school players who wear the black and gold of Vinton-Shellsburg.     On Friday, the players were introduced to the crowd at halftime of the varsity game.
