First Baptist Church sees 83 children for soccer camp, so far

    Soccer camp is being held this week by the First Baptist Church.  There has been as many as 83 children participate, and anyone else is still welcome to come on over and join in! The soccer camp is being held at the Braille school soccer field as a ministry of First Baptist Church.   There are 11 coaches and 16 support staff.

Benton County Speedway Coloring Contest is here!!

    The rules are simple, just print off the attached Rules & Picture, work your magic, and turn it in at the Benton County Speedway this Weekend!   Entries are due THIS SUNDAY and you must be present to win, so sharpen your crayons and colored pencils and put some color to the page.   The PDF file is attached, along with a JPG version.

Swim Camp, register by August 3 to participate

 For $10, kids can get a chance to learn competitive swimming technique and strokes from the Vinton Boys and Girls Swim coaches, current and both current and former high school and college swimmers.  Included in this price are goggles, t-shirt and swim cap.  The camp is August 8-12, Mon – Fri  from 5 to 6pm at the Vinton Pool.

Thanks for Making VU golf event a success!

      Thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to come out and play in the Vinton Unlimited Golf Tournament this year!  We had a fantastic time and all but about 2 groups made it through the entire tournament without getting rained on!  Below you will find some information about the tournament, the scores, and the crowd pleaser.

Alumni Football players already looking ahead to 2012

        Randy Scheel had planned to spend the days after Vinton-Shellsburg loss to the Center Point-Urbana team in the July 8 Alumni Football USA game making preparations for the 2011 rematch.      But instead, he has spent much of the month of July the same way other Vinton and Garrison residents have – cleaning up the results of the July 11 storm.

Skate Rink back open after storm damage

  The Vinton Skate and Activity Center will be open Friday, July 22nd!  Open skate is open Fridays from 7-9 pm. Mini golf is open 7-9 pm on Friday, Tuesday, and Thursday as well as from 5-9 pm on Saturday and 1-4 pm on Sunday.  Walking will also begin Monday, July 25th.  Walking is on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8-9 am.

Revised summer starting times at the Races

With summer heat officially in full force, gates will open 30 minutes later at 4:30pm; hot laps will start at 6pm with racing to follow. Adult admission is $10, kids 6-12 are $4. Concession stands will open at 5pm, serving all your favorites including tenderloins, chicken strips, cheese balls and more. The 2011 Kid's Coloring Contest kicks off Sunday, July 24.

Vinton Parks and Recreation Golf Outings

  The Special Needs Population Golf Outing will be held Thursday, July 28th from 9:00 am-11:30 am.  Participants will receive golf instruction, be able to play at the Vinton Country Club Course, and have a beverage and lunch afterwards.  Participants will ride in carts with club members and use the clubs provided by the members.
