By Brian Larkin The Vinton Shellsburg Special Olympics Basketball team took the gold in two events at the Special Olympics Iowa Midwinter Games at the U of I Fieldhouse in Iowa City.

Bryce Radeke and Brady Ortner competed at the Iowa AAU Super Pee Wee State at Young Arena in Waterloo, March 6th and 7th.    Brady Ortner of Shellsburg (Kindergarten) was the Iowa AAU Super Pee Wee  52-pound State Champion.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Special Olympics 5 on 5 Coed Basketball team defeated the team from Iowa City in Regional Competition to advance to the Championship game at the Midwinter Games on Saturday, March 13th.

  The Vinton – Shellsburg Special Olympics Team is in the process of raising money to purchase complete uniforms for each of its 40 members, and to help with transportation and equipment expenses involved with a team this size.
