Please check on your friends and especially the elderly or those with breathing issues this week. Make sure they are all in a cool location and aren't trying to "tough it out" with broken air conditioning or without fans.Due to the extreme temperatures this week, the old Revolution Church currently known as The Well, located at 417 1st Ave in Vinton will be open for individuals who need a cool place to hang out.
Vinton Monuments workshop draws residents from five states
Fifty people descended on Maplewood Cemetery on Tuesday for the Vinton Monuments / Atlas Preservation cemetery preservation workshop. Jonathan Appell of Atlas Preservation in Southington,Connecticut lead the workshop. There are many tasks that the water department attends to. One that I never thought about was the upkeep of the fire hydrants. To be honest I've never spent a lot of time thinking about fire hydrants at all. Not their color nor the fact that they need to be painted. Until right in front of me, a hydrant was getting its new coat of paint. Then I noticed a lot of hydrants along C Ave. Virginia Gay Hospital to receive $466,000 grant from the USDA Rural Development
The USDA Rural Development has approved a grant of $466,600.00 to Virginia Gay Hospital. The investment will be used to help Virginia Gay Hospital in
Vinton recover from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This project
will replace lost revenues caused by pandemic-related challenges. Once completed,
the project will provide the hospital with financial resources to better serve the
residents of this rural Benton County community and the surrounding rural areas.
Hope Rogers, relative of Frank Lloyd Wright, shares family stories in new book
In 1976, a Vinton resident authored her book, "Grandpa Wright." Using some of the information from her great grandmother Lizzie Wright Heller's memoir. Growing up in Belle Plaine, Hope Sankot Rogers' fondest memories were of the time she spent with her Grandma Lizzie. Virginia Gay Hospital created $29,039,574 impact on local economy in 2022
In all, Iowa’s hospitals provided 145,252 jobs statewideLast year, Virginia Gay Hospital generated 578 jobs that added $ 29,039,574 to Benton county’s economy, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association. Virginia Gay Hospital expenses of $ 56,837,648 account for 6.30% of Benton County gross domestic product.Michele Schoonover, CEO stated, Virginia is proud to have served the residents of the surrounding area for the last 100 years.
Statewide Speed Awareness Day July 26
Iowa’s 2023 daily traffic fatality count is over 20% higher than the 5-year average: an alarming trend. The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau is teaming up with law enforcement to keep drivers and passengers safe by raising awareness about the dangers of speeding and urging drivers to obey speed limits.On July 26, Iowa will join Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas for a Speed Awareness Campaign. Farmers Savings Bank & Trust makes donation to Pink Heals
On July 14, 2023, Farmers Savings Bank & Trust used their designated place in the Vinton Unlimited Golf Tournament to make a donation to the Pink Heals organization.Contestants chipped a pink golf ball into designated circles in the grass and the respective circle had dollar amounts to which the bank then donated to Pink Heals. It was a fun game for a worthy cause!The bank was able to present a $375 donation to Dennis Bramow with Pink Heals as a result of the tournament.
