Vikings face rematch with W. Dubuque; winner goes to State Basketball Tourney

  Vinton-Shellsburg has seen its opponent for Monday's boys basketball Substate game already this seeson. That contest was the second game of the season, a 72-47 loss at Western Dubuque. The Bobcats are 21-2 on the season, losing only to Mount Vernon, 56-62, and Maquoketa, 52-50. For the Vikings, 19-4, the loss to the Bobcats was one of two double-digit defeats this year.

Viking Alum Miller helping 11th-ranked Central track team

VS alum Phil Miller is a senior on the Central track team; he placed 2nd & 4th in recent events. Viking football: 2012 season to include trips to Decorah, Manchester, Epworth

After they begin the 2012 season with a short road trip to nearby rival Benton Community, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings will be making three long road trips. They will travel to Epworth (Western Dubuque), Manchester (West Delaware) and Decorah.  The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released the schedule for 2012 high school football games.

Vikings advance to district final with win over Mustangs, 65-16

Max Griffith makes another 3 for the Vikings.   Vinton-Shellsburg scored more than enough points in the first period to win its District 7 boys basketball opener against Independence. The Vikings led 19-4 at the end of one, and defeated the Mustangs, 65-16, Monday evening in Vinton. Max Griffith and Grant Sagan each had scored 13 points by halftime, equaling the Mustangs’ total team score.

Vikings celebrate WaMaC west championship; begin District play Monday

The Viking defense made scoring tough for the Sabers. Alumni Football game set for June 16

The Alumni Football game between the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings and the Center Point-Urbana Stormin Pointers will be played Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Vinton High School Football Field.  All Viking alumni are encouraged to sign up. 6th Grade Basketball team places 1st

The Vinton-Shellsburg 6th Grade Basketball team recently placed first at the Blairstown Community Foundation Youth Basketball Tournament.  Team members include Front Row (L-R)  Matthew Andreesen, Blake Bohnsack, Mason Stainbrook, Tanner Cummings -- Back Row (L-R) Jace Kelchen, Justin Bartz, Cole Overton, Jimmy Becker.  Coaches are Todd Bohnsack and Stu Overton.

Vikings end regular season at home; have clinched Division title

The Vinton-Shellsburg boys basketball team, at 16-4, has clinched the WaMaC West division title, and plays its final game of the regular season at home tonight. The Vikings host DeWitt Central.  The District tournament action begins Monday, when the Vikings host Independence at 7 p.m.  The Vikings, who are in the District 7 bracket of class 3A, are two wins away from competing at the McLeod Center, where the University of Northern Iowa basketball teams play.
