District changes mean new football foes for Vikings
Each Friday of the 2011 high school football season found the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings playing the same team during the same week of the season as they played in 2010.
But for the Vikings and most other high school teams, 2012 brings many new district opponents.
It's going to be tough, and fun, says Viking Head Coach Patrick Farley.
Vinton-Shellsburg will now be in Class 3A, District 5, along with Crestood, Cresco; Decorah; Epworth, Western Dubuque; Independence; Oelwein; and West Delaware.
PACK THE POOL
Tuesday evening beginning at 4:45 the Viking swim team will host Waterloo East at the Braille School Pool. This team began the year with little experience, having only five swimmers returning from last years’ squad. But they have made significant improvement and are looking forward to the opportunity to show folks what they can do.
Rusty Garst Invitational Results (Fort Dodge)
It was a long way to go for the Viking swimmers but the results were well worth the trip. On Saturday, the Vikes ventured to Fort Dodge for an opportunity to swim against some great competition and different teams at the annual Rusty Garst Invitational. Facing strong opponents from Fort Dodge, Carroll, Sioux City and Waterloo West, the continuously improving Vikings performed well earning an eighth place finish.
