Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters win home Dual

The target breaks in pieces after being hit by Curtis Geiger's shot Saturday.     The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters Trap team hosted Cedar Rapids Prairie at the Red Cedar Izaak Walton League Trap range today, and finished the day in 1st place overall.   Squad by Squad results were: Vinton-Shellsburg Black Squad  206/250 Cedar Rapids Prairie Black Squad 189/250   Vinton-Shellsburg Gold Squad 161/250 Cedar Rapids Prairie Orange Squad 144/250   The high scoring shooter for Vinton-Shellsburg’s Red Cedar Shooter’s was veteran Senior Bryce Burroughs, with a score of 47/50 for the day.

Best effort not quite enough for another Viking track win

The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking track team members put in their "best effort" of the year, said Coach Aric Chvala. But it was not quite enough to extend their meet win streak to five. The Vikings finished second to Solon at Solon on Tuesday evening. Solon had 135 team points to 116 for VS. Rippel leads Vikes to victory in home golf meet

The Vinton-Shellsburg boys golf team won a triangular home meet on Tuesday, defeating IC Regina and Clear Creek-Amana. Last chance to register for VPRD softball leagues

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is making its final call for adult softball league registrations. If you or if you know of someone that is wanting to get a team together for summer league, please be sure to turn in your registration form by Friday, April 20th. There is a $30 deposit at the time of registration and league fees will be determined at the Captain's Meeting on Wednesday, April 25th.

Vikette golfers take second at home quad meet

Another W for Vikings; track team wins at Benton

The VS track team won its last four meets; they were honored with other spring sport teams Monday.   The Vinton-Shellsburg track team scored another team victory, winning at Benton Community on Friday. First-place winners for the Vikings included: 4x 200 M Relay (Gunner Tranel, Kelyn Rickels, Chase Overton Darrin Charlier) Wyatt Lyons, 1600M and 800M 110 M Shuttle Hurdle Relay (Nolan Edwards, Ryan Webster, Darrin Charlier, David Richter)   "It was another tough night for conditions," said coach Aric Chvala.

V-S Special Olympians qualify for State competition

  On Saturday, 17 athletes from Vinton-Shellsburg Special Olympics competed in the East Central Iowa Regional Spring Games at the Coe College campus in Cedar Rapids. All 17 Athletes qualified for the State competition in Ames, to be held in May. Out of 37 events, the athletes earned 34- 1st place ribbons, 7- 2nd place ribbons, and 5- 3rd place ribbons.

Farley to leave Viking football program; to become head coach at East Marshall

  Vinton-Shellsburg High School Football Coach Pat Farley has announced his resignation. Farley told Vinton Today on Friday that he will become the head coach at East Marshall High School. While also resigning his teaching position for the coming school year, Farley said he would like to retain his job as a summer school teacher this year.

The Vinton-Shellsburg boys golf team, led by Dylan Rippel's 44, took third place at the Clear Creek-Amana quadrangular meet April 12. Vikings win again; take first at Iowa Valley track meet

With just a few first place finishes, but many medalists, the Vinton-Shellsburg boys won another track meet on Tuesday, winning the Ruth Ahrens Invitational at Iowa Valley. The Vikings scored 128.5 points, one more than second-place Solon. "It was another great win for the guys," said Coach Aric Chvala. "A lot of the time people think that you have to win every event to win a track meet but I guess we are proving that theory wrong -- we don't win many events but we we place in most of them.
