VPRD to offer Zumba during May

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will soon be offering another session of Zumba at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center! This cardio-sculpt, calorie-burning, Latin-inspired dance-fitness party is the perfect solution for those of you looking to spice up your fitness routine or elevate it to a completely new level! Instructor Katrina Reed teaches participants easy-to-follow dance moves that will then be incorporated into a full-body, aerobic dance workout! This Zumba class will take place from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center on the following dates: May 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, and 24.

Vikette Invite: VS finishes in third place

Noelle Noe competes in the 400 hurdles event. Cheyenne Barnes won the 100M and the 200M dash Tuesday during the Vikette Invite, leading the Vikettes to third place. Other VS winners included: Karley Kenney, 1500M; Maddy Springer, long jump; and three relay teams: 4 x 200, 400M shuttle hurdle and 800 sprint medley. Benton Community won the event with 167 points, while Marion had 158 and VS 156.

Four in the 40s: Vikette golfers achieve goal in home dual win

The Vinton-Shellsburg girls golf team achieved its goal of "Four in the 40s," as all four top varsity golfers performed that well Tuesday at the Wildcat in Shellsburgt. The Vikettes defeated Jesup, 182-215. VS boys golf team wins at South Hills, takes third at Lake McBride

Vikette 4 x 100 team to race at Drake Relays

Drake Relays 4 x 100 team: Dawne Schminke, Sydney Robertson, Cheyenne Barnes, and Maddie Springer. The Vinton-Shellsburg girls track 4 x 100 relay team will be running at the Drake Relays on Friday. The runners include:  Dawne Schminke, Sydney Robertson, Cheyenne Barnes, and Maddie Springer.

Vikings tie for 3rd at BCLUW; Viking, Vikette Relays this week

The Vinton-Shellsburg boys track team tied for third place in the Comet Relays at BCLUW Monday, in Conrad.   Winners for the Vikings included: Kelyn Rickels, high jump; Darren Charlier, 400 hurdles. "We did a lot of things really well," said Coach Aric Chvala.  "We ran the guys in a lot of events that they were unfamiliar with and they performed very well.

Vikettes finish third at W Delaware event

Details of Contingency Connection awards posted for area race car drivers

  We have been asked to pass along this information to our readers who follow racing and who compete. So racers and fans, enjoy! ---   Around $40,000 in national manufacturer certificates through Contingency Connection have arrived at the Independence Motor Speedway office and will be awarded to drivers in 2012.

Vikettes finish fourth at Benton girls golf tournament

  The Vinton-Shellsburg girls golf team finished fourth on Saturday in the Benton Invitational golf tournament, played at Tara Hills Golf Course, Van Horne  (par 37).
