Vikings win several events in Early Bird meet, finish 4th
The Vinton-Shellsburg boys track team finished fourth in its Early Bird meet Friday in Vinton.
The Vikings earned 89 points, behind Dubuque Wahlert, Solon, and Western Dubuque. Union Finished fifth and Benton Community, sixth.
Several V-S athletes won varsity events.
Jason Kirk won the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.
Benton County Speedway opens with April 3 Frostbuster special
The first green flag of the season flies at Benton County Speedway this Sunday, April 3, when five IMCA divisions converge at Vinton for the traditional Frostbuster special.
The IMCA Modified feature pays $1,000 to win and is a qualifying event for the 2011 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $500 to win, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for $400, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $250 and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $150.
Winter Athletics Achieve Academic Recognition @ V-S HS!
During each activity season in Iowa, high school students are not only recognized for their accomplishments as performers or as athletes, but also recognized for their efforts in the classroom. The Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District is proud of the efforts our students put forth in the classroom. During the winter 2010-11 activity season, the following teams or groups have achieved state-wide academic recognition for their efforts.
