Viking continue to improve, split with Waterloo East, Decorah
Last week saw another solid performance by the Vikings as they split a dual with Decorah and Waterloo East. Down one of our key performers, we were able to hold off Waterloo East 93-76 while falling to a very talented Decorah squad 106-64. We had three more event wins. Once again, Brandon Tharp won the 100 Breast and John Levis captured first in the 500 Free.
School History: Down by 20, Vikings rally to defeat Marion in overtime, 82-74

Behind Marion by 20 early in the third, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings slowly clawed their way back into their basketball game against the Indians Friday night.
They got the lead down to five in the final minute before two sophomores tied the game. A three point shots by Max Kearns cut the lead to two. Senior Night for VS wrestlers
The Vinton-Shellsburg wrestling team celebrated Senior Night during its double dual with Solon and Williamsburg Thursday night. The team honored its three senior wrestlers: Ian Story, 135; Jake Hessenius, 140; and Logan Merchant, Heavyweight. Also honored was Amy Andrews, a senior who has been a wrestling manager for five seasons. Little Vikes Wrestlers place 3rd
In their first team tourney of the season, the Little Vikes wrestlers placed 3rd. The tourney took place at Cedar Rapids Prairie for the Hammerin’ Hawk Tourney. The next tourney will be January 21, in Alburnett.

Erika Hammar led the Vinton-Shellsburg girls basketball team with 10 points as the Vikettes defeated Clear Creek-Amana, 42-29, Tuesday night. Allison Emrich added 9 to help the Vikettes earn a road win. The girls travel to Marion on Friday. See game stats HERE.
Beatty, Williams lead Vikings to win over CCA; Marion challenge next
Down by two early in the fourth period, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings looked to the guys who have led them in scoring throughout the season.
And Brody Beatty and Logan Williams came through. Beatty tied the game at 44 with two free throws. Williams hit a three. Beatty scored on a pass from Williams, was fouled and hit the free throw. Viking swimmers have 'best' performance at WaHawk Relays
We swam really well Saturday at the Wahawk Relays. This is a large, and very competitive, meet with an unusual format where nearly every event is set up as a relay. There were 8 schools and more than 190 athletes participating to include Cedar Falls, Iowa City West, Linn-Mar, Waterloo East, Waterloo West, Decorah, Newton and the Vikings.
Meet the Little Viking wrestlers
During last Thursday's home wrestling meet, the Vinton Parks and Recreation Department Little VIking wrestlers were introduced to the crowd.
The Little Vikings have their Vinton tournament this Sunday, Jan. 16. The older Vikings will celebrate Senior Night this Thursday when the VS wrestlers host Solon and Williamsburg. Free throws, Dyson three-pointers lift Vikings past Mustangs
Vinton Shellsburg left Independence with a win Friday night, and headed home for more tough games next week.
The Vikings ended a week of road games with a 58-46 win at Independence.
The Mustangs have struggled this season, but they gave the Vikings all they could handle.
