Red Cedar Shooters place 9th at State Meet, 10th in trap league

The 2012 VS Red Cedar Shooters; ninth at State Trap Meet.   The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters Trap Team finished its 2012 season with a 9th place finish at the Iowa High School State Trap Championships, and ranked 10th overall in the statewide league standings.   A total of 903 shooters, representing 88 Iowa High schools, competing in over 180 5-person squads competed in the all day event held at the Cedar Falls Gun Club Saturday.

V-S Red Cedar Shooters Trap Team to compete at State Trap event

The VS Red Cedar Shooters will compete at State event in CF on Saturday; they were 3rd in 2011. The Red Cedar Shooters Trap Team will compete at the Iowa High School Trap Championships this Saturday, June 2nd, at the Cedar Falls Gun Club on Old Highway 218 north of Cedar Falls.   The Red Cedar Shooters are ranked 11th in the State as of the end of the regular season this past Saturday, and finished 3rd in the State at this event last year.

Vikettes unbeaten; outscore opponents 101-20 on diamond

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes are tied for the best record in all of Iowa high school softball at this point. The Vikettes are 8-0, and have outscored their opponents by a margin of 101-20. "We are now 8-0, and off to a very good start," says coach Bari Parrott.  "We have been hitting the ball extremely well up and down the line-up, which has made a huge difference for us this year.

Track and Field Day offered fun and competition

Last week, Vinton Shellsburg's grades K-5th,  competed at the high school track. Various track and field events were held for the children to compete in. Here's a few photos of the days events, thanks Laurie!  

Duffy, Dvorak go back-to-back at Independence Motor Speedway

Despite receiving over two and-a-half inches of rain at the track overnight on Friday, fans witnessed a terrific show Saturday night at Independence Motor Speedway. A great field of 104 race teams signed in for the fourth night of weekly points racing on a night that a pair of drivers became the first to earn back-to-back wins this season. In the IMCA Modified division, front row starter Mike Burbridge shot into the lead at the drop of the green and quickly pulled away from the field.
