Vikings win at Union, play at Indepedence tonight
Bouncing back from a tough 5-point loss at Williamsburg on Tuesday, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings went to La Porte City on Thursday, where they defeated Union, 53-34.
Jake Dyson led the Vikings with 14 points, six of them on 3-point shots, while Logan Williams added nine.
The Vikings stay on the road, traveling to Independence tonight.
Latest VPRD volleyball standings
The team from Fareway/Tharp leads the co-ed division in the VPRD volleyball league. Ron-Da-Voo leads the men's division while Terry's Gutter service and Iron Shed/Hummel's lead the two women's divisions.

Viking swim team finds more success
Once again the guys did a super job representing our school Tuesday night at Waterloo.
Despite some illnesses, we managed to hang in and beat Waterloo East 95-75 at their home pool. We fell to Decorah 109-61. We had three more event wins.
Our guys won two individual events with Brandon Tharp in the 100 Breast and John Levis in the 200 Free, and the 200 Free Relay team of Rico Carneiro, Levis, Josh Yerkes and Tharp also took home first place in their event.

I was never a real athlete, but my favorite childhood memories were of the winter, playing football with my brother and neighbors. I remember the ecstasy of tackling in my brother in the snow. I recall the day I dived for a pass and probably would have caught it. But I landed face first in a pile of snow; the shock made me drop the ball.

Vikes end December with big win at home, 69-36

Viking swim team wins one, loses on at Decorah
We had a really good performance last night in Decorah. We won four of the eleven events and split our double dual. Decorah beat us 96 to 66 and we beat Waterloo East 106 to 62. Results are below:

VSHS basketball: Boys cruise at home vs. Columbus; girls lose heartbreaker
The Vinton-Shellsburg boys won easily at home, defeating Waterloo Columbus, 68-43, Friday in Vinton. The Vikings took control of the game early, leading at the end of the first quarter, 19-9.
The Viketttes, however, had a tough time, falling behing by 10 in the first half, en route to losing to the Sailors in the final minute, 48-46.
