Sophomores come from behind for win, but VS varsity loses to Marion, 35-7

Punt Pass and Kick winners advance to State Contest
This past Saturday, September 18th, a dozen Vinton youth ages 8 through 12 fought the dreary morning weather to see who could punt, pass and placekick a football the farthest.
This event was held at the V/S high school football field and hosted by the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department.
The winner in each age group and gender will now have the opportunity to participate in the State Finals on Saturday, October 16, at the Iowa State University Football Indoor Practice Facility in Ames.
Vikings suffer first district loss at Western Dubuque, 33-22
The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings went to Farley, hoping to extend their winning streak to three games.
But Western Dubuqueplayers celebrated Parents Night by defeating the Vikings 33-22.
The Bobcats scored first as they kept the Vikings from getting a first down in their first two possessions.
After two Vikings punts, the Bobcats scored on a 50-yard-drive, getting their first touchdown on a short pass.
Vikings tied atop 3A District 5; travel to Western Dubuque tonight
After week one of District football action, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings are tied at the top of the Class 3A District 5. Marion, Union and DeWitt Central also have identical 1-0 records.
Tonight, in the second week of District competition, the Vikings travel to Central Dubuque (0-1, 1-2). Undefeated Union hosts DeWitt Central (1-0, 1-2).
VS sophomores begin football season with 2-1 record
The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking sophomores begin their season with a 2-1 record.
Coach Dave Boisen shared the following summary with Vinton Today:
Week 1: VS 36, BC 0
The Benton Community game in Vinton was 36 – 0, Vinton Shellsburg. We played well on special teams and had a great game on defense. We had some big plays from some good players.
