The members of the Vinton-Shellsburg volleyball team and Coach Stephanie Francois- Miller held volleyball camp this week for the younger players.
The girls ran through a variety of drills, learning the fundamentals of the game.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Special Olympics bowling team came home with 7 state qualifiers in their debut showing at the East Central Iowa Regional Special Olympics tournament.
Nearly 200 athletes and volunteers filled the Westdale Bowling Center in Cedar Rapids on Monday morning.
Team members Shelby Arp, Morrigan Hubbard, Danielle Koopman, Beau Vinton, Zach Kramer, Robert Hurst, and Jimmy Wolfe took home first place ribbons.

The 2010 Benton County Speedway racing season wrapped up with another successful year for both racers and community organizations.
Over $4,000 was raised for non-profit organizations during Sunday night racing events, including over $400 for the Vinton Area Dollars for Scholars, almost $600 for the Family Nurturing Council and over $2,200 for Iowa’s Bravest.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings improved their playoff chances on Friday moving up in the District 5 standings after their biggest victory of the year. They won 52-17, at Center Point-Urbana, spoiling Homecoming for CPU.
The victory moved the Vikings into fourth place in the District with two weeks left in the schedule. The top four teams advance to the playoffs.

The Vinton-Shellsburg boys finished fifth in team scoring at the West Delaware Cross Country Meet Tuesday.
Cory Mayhew led the Vikings, finishing 15th.
The top V-S finishers were: Ricky Jeray, Sam Martin, Parker Oltrogge and Wyatt Oltrogge.
In the girls' competition, Vinton-Shellsburg finished ninth in the contest won by Benton Community.

After the sixth week of the 2010 football season, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings are at .500. They are 2-2 in District 5 action and 3-3 overall.
The Vikings traveled to Anamosa, where they defeated the winless Raiders, 58-14.
The Vikings' 2-2 record puts them in a three way tie in their district, But according to the point standing system used by the Iowa High School Athletic Association, the Vikings are in sixth place as they head into the final third of the season.

Each year, at Homecoming, The Vinton-Shellsburg Cross Country Team carries the game ball from the opposing school to the Vinton-Shellsburg football stadium.
This year, the journey led from Marion High School to Vinton. The seniors, at first, and then the rest of the team, accepted the ball from the Marion coach. They then took turns running the ball to Vinton before carrying it to the field to present it to Viking Coach Pete Farley just before the game began.
